Commemorative Coin Program
The 50 States Commemorative Coin Program Act was signed into law December 1, 1997. This system was designed to serve three purposes. First, it was to honor the states that make up the United States. Second, it was to advertise knowledge concerning the states, their historical past and culture, and the nationwide heritage among the youth. Lastly, it was designed to encourage a new generation of numismatists, or coin collectors.
