In these dire economic times we’re constantly being told we have to rekindle the spirit of the Blitz. So why not go the whole hog and look at historic conference venues with a difference by holding it at the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms?
Recapture that spirit of defiance that seems so appropriate today! This unique historic venue in the heart of Westminster is where Winston Churchill met with his War Cabinet and led Britain and her allies to victory during the Second World War. This once top secret wartime bunker can accommodate events for 10 to 400 people and offers all modern facilities. Created in 1938 from a humble storage basement of what is now Her Majesty’s Treasury, the Cabinet War Rooms operated throughout the Second World War and were the scene of hundreds of crucial meetings of Winston Churchill’s War Cabinet and Defence Committee. It was from here that Churchill delivered several of his famous speeches.
The Imperial War Museum took over and restored large areas of the Whitehall site which had been hidden for years and the same time the opportunity was taken to develop a conference and banqueting centre.The meeting facilities now include a number of historic period rooms including the HCA Auditorium which seats up to 150 guests and the Harmsworth Room which contains original features of the war-time bunker.
Or if it’s more nautical, yet still historic conference venues you’re after, try using HMS Belfast as the maritime base for your London event or conference. Moored on the Thames, she was launched in March 1938 and served throughout the Second World War, playing a leading role at the Battle of North Cape and in the Normandy landings. She supported the UN forces in Korea and remained in service until 1965. n 1971 she was saved for the nation as a unique reminder of Britain’s naval heritage and is the only survivor of the great fleets of big gun-armed warships built for the Royal Navy in the first half of the twentieth century.
