Copper and Its Different Varieties and Application Areas
Copper has been the best friend of human kind since time immemorial. The oldest civilizations knew their use as is evident from the many artifacts that have been found which are more than 10,000 years old. Even, in their earliest form it was used as copper-tin alloys.
Today, copper is one of the most versatile metals that have a wide application area in many industrial sectors across the world. This includes electrical, construction, manufacturing, aerospace, railways, telecommunications, shipment, retail, industrial, commercial, residential industries and many more. They are known for their super conductivity, high ductility, corrosion resistant and easy molding properties. Know about the different varieties of copper and their respective application areas.
Copper Wire: It is a known fact that copper is a malleable and ductile metal. And it is also a good conductor of both heat and electricity. To top it all it also scores as a cost effective solution. And this is exactly the reason why the copper wire is used extensively in electrical wirings in residential, as well as commercial places. However, it is very important that the metals undergo material testing to verify the content and provide genuine products. This is obviously to avoid unwarranted accidents.
Cadmium Copper: Cadmium copper as the name indicates are copper alloys that have 0.1 – 1.5% cadmium and also little bit of extra materials. The addition of cadmium makes the alloy resistant to softening at high temperatures. Among the many applications of cadmium copper are in trolley wires, spring contacts, heating pads, connectors, electric blanket elements, and high strength transmission lines. This copper alloy is also used for soldering applications, and to join components in automobile and truck radiators. However, before getting them always look out for industry standards and see that they have the required certifications to manufacture different metal products.
Copper Rod: The copper bar too is used for various industries for commercial, industrial and residential purpose. And they too like their other copper counterparts come in varied sizes and the shapes that include round, square and hex. Manufacturers today also come with customized varieties to suit special needs.
Copper Strip: Just like other copper varieties, a copper strip is also capable of handling heavy volumes with solid tolerance. They are highly suitable for electrical use, industrial purpose, switch gear components, earthing, construction sites, and manufacturing etc.
It is popular because copper strips are very flexible. In fact, the shape of the strip can be altered and presented in any desired specifications.
